I Didn't Go To The Beer Store.

Eno Sarris, May 26, 2015 -

I didn't go to the beer store this weekend and it turned out okay.

I didn't go to the beer store this weekend and it turned out okay because I stockpiled beer along the way.

I didn't go to the beer store this weekend and it turned out okay because I stockpiled beer along the way by accident because I'm a derelict which I know since I noticed that I didn't go to the beer store this weekend.

It's okay, I mean I take plenty of nights off and can't day drink anyway with the toddlers, so it's okay. I didn't go one week, it's not crazy, I went twice two weeks ago. There is balance in the force.

It's really just that I'm surprised that I'm impressed that I managed to drink this lineup of new beers this weekend without going to the store that week.

Clown Shoes Photosphere Phil (Space Cake with Citra added)
Logsdon Farmhouse Ales Abherrant (thick yellow Belgian Golden Ale/Saison)
Dark Horse Brewing Plead the 5th Imperial Stout (straight black stout, great)
River North Brewing Hoppenberg Uncertainty Principle (excellent fruity brett IPA)
Pizza Port Swamis' IPA (classic bright hoppy west coast IPA from Port)
Modern Times Blazing World (fruity juicy dank amber DIPA)
Funkwerks Tropic King (tropical fruity saison from Colorado)
Firestone Walker Stickee Monkee (2014) (barrel aged Belgian Quad)
The Bruery Or Xata (2015) (yes, horchata beer)
Mikkeller / To ôl Betelgeuze (multi-hopped blueberry Lambic)

Okay, you've figured it out by now. I cashed in on several fronts.

That's multiple part trades, stashes, and plane rides north. There's a Colorado care package, a San Diego visit, an Illinois trade, and my last trip to the store, two or three weeks ago. I'm thankful to everyone involved, they sent me / sold me great beer.

Overall, the weekend was epic. That's my new favorite (fruity!) saison in Tropic King, an epic barrel aged dark beer in the Monkee, a weird opaque yellow saison-esque tart yeasty Logsdon thing, two classic west coast IPAs, a Modern fruity dark amber beer that's barely matched, a nice fruity brett IPA, a weird horchata beer that made you think they dropped some lactose in a cinnamon pilsner or something, and a straight stout that didn't need chocolate or coffee to bring the flavor. And an excellent hoppy sour!

But I did wonder if it was too much. My fridges weren't full, even, when the weekend started. I considered runs to the beer store multiple times over the weekend. I considered my stash light and many moments. What is wrong with me.

Have I gone too deep? Is this too much love for beer? I fall out of bed and drink my new favorite Saison and I'm worried most of the weekend I don't maybe have a good enough beer in there to celebrate my hour of free time Saturday night before the baby starts crying? Is my wife right? Should I dial it back?

Is this all just an annoying humblebrag?

Or is it just the sort of thing that happens when you do some start a website and then start trading and leave the house for ten days and come back and surprise yourself with the great beers you left behind? Those of you with more patience and larger cellars are probably like, sure, whatever, I found a 13 year old Dogfish Head down there the other day, sure.

And some of you are like, sure, whatever, those beers sound great.

You should have seen the tap list Saturday night.
