It may not be important -- usually taste is what matters most -- but Sam Adams is stuck between the bigs and the smalls in the beer industry. I took a shot at defining craft beer for Nate Silver's 538.com, and found some interesting things about Boston Beer and their place in the beer scene.
As a bonus, in the header you'll see Sam Adams' Rebel IPA scores, averaged out weekly, over time. Not super impressive, and to me it suggests that the marketing campaign is falling short of the taste. I'd consider freshness as a variable, but we're most likely on a second batch of Rebel by now.
